University of Toronto European Studies Students' Association (ESSA)
The European Studies Students' Association - also known as ESSA - represents all students enrolled in a major or minor in European Studies at the University of Toronto, St George. Every year, ESSA organizes numerous academic and social events on campus. This website is a resource for students looking to get involved with ESSA this year.
Messages in the Media
Every year, our Editors-in-Chief lead a group of over twenty analysts in drafting report on country-EU relations as portrayed in local, mainstream media. As one of our largest academic endeavours, we are always looking for research analysts and editors. We are particularly looking for students able to speak European languages. Shoot us an email, we might have a position for you!
Academic Events
As an active student association representing students in social sciences and humanities, we strive to contribute to our students' academic experience by organizing academic events on contemporary issues of relevance to Europe and its neighborhood. Stay in touch with us through Facebook to learn more about upcoming events!
Meet the Team
Flavian Berneagă
President
Flavian is a fourth-year student studying European Studies and Criminology. When he is not in Graham, he likes to cheer for Bayern München, daydream about Paris, and read books on the history of Eastern European countries. Proudly coming from the country that killed its Communist dictator on Christmas Day, Flavian will be honoured to serve as President for a second consecutive year.
Ivana Vujeva
Vice-President
Ivana is a fourth year student, wasting her parents' money studying Peace, Conflict, and Justice and Art History. When she isn't chugging coffee and stressing about grad school applications, she can be found watching Antiques Roadshow, talking to her cacti, and shopping for chairs on the internet. She likes to call her passion for eggs an eggdiction.
James Taylor
Treasurer
James Taylor is our Treasurer and he is in his final year. James is an Orthodox Icon enthusiast and can often be seen wearing an infamous Georgia hat while reading.
Anton Rizor
Co-Editor-in-Chief
Anton is a fourth-year political science and history student with a passion for sports and hot pasta dishes. Aside from (unintentionally) German-staring at people, Anton enjoys drinking Kolsch beer and take long walks (not necessarily on the beach).
Tea Cimini
Co-Editor-in-Chief
Tea is a fourth year student studying PCJ and actively trying to change the world around her, one cheese platter at a time. She has an inexplicable love for Italy and her favourite Cards against humanity card is 'tiny horses.' Her biggest fear is being told she is not allowed to wear cute dresses to school.
Tina Vulevic
Co-Editor-in-Chief
Tina is a third year student studying International Relations and European Studies. She faces numerous existential crises on a daily basis when pondering the reasons why humans still go to war. She also can and will fight anyone who tries to invalidate her political stances. Her biggest fear is having to write a witty bio.
